Since we got in on Thursday, we had an extra evening with Grandma. After dinner, she read Sam his bedtime store with actions and all! |
Verna, Sam, Isla and I drove back to Kansas for a long weekend over the holiday. Poor Quinn had to stay home and work, but he had Odelia to keep him company. Overall the drive went well. It took an extra 2 hours or so with having kids. Starting in Dallas, Sam would start getting restless every 2 hours and we would need to take a break. He kept saying, "we're there now!" or "I want Kansas." I think we started telling him we were close starting in Oklahoma City.
Grandma, who turns 90 in December, had requested a visit from the grand-kids and great grand kids before we had even left during Christmas time. And when Grandma asks you to do something, you pretty much have to do it! Middle of the year visits are always less crazy than during the holiday visits. There are still lots of friends and family to see, but without all the holiday business. Mary, Susan and Uncle Rich drove in from Colorado Springs, and we were able to meet baby Isaac, Philip and Janel's son, for the first time. We were also able to meet up with my old friend Kyly and her kids, Anderson and Spencer and meet baby Daphne, who is just about 2 weeks younger than Isla. The boys and Sam played so well together and Daphne and Isla were so cute stealing toys from each other.
On Friday we meet Clifford, Andrea and all the nephews and niece at the farm. Sam was able to explore the new sprayer with Grandpa and chase some kittens. On Saturday we had a big hamburger fry in the machine shop with 20 plus family members. It was the perfect location, with the big doors open and a cool breeze. With the picnic tables set up and just open area, the kids had full run of the area while we were able to sit and chat. Sam played so hard for so long, that at one time I looked over and he was just laying down on the cement taking a little breather, then he was off again to chase his cousins. Now that he's older and can really chase them, he just had the best time and was so sad when it was time to leave. Even after we got back to Texas, he was telling me, "I NEED my cousins NOW!!." And he keeps asking to go back to Kansas to see everyone. I guess his short term memory forgets that it was a 12 hour drive each way. It was a very nice trip and so nice that it worked out that so many of the other family members were there. We'll be back at Christmas, and this time to celebrate a big 90th Birthday!

Grandma had requested a birthday cake for all the May Birthday's. As we couldn't find any matches, Papa's idea was to use the handy blow torch. |

Grandpa and Sam just checking out the status of these tires. I don't think anything was wrong with them, but I guess tires always need to be checked. |

| Such a tired Itty Bitty. She did so well. So off schedule, but a happy little girl. |
 |
| This kind of catches the chaos. Bikes, tricycles, 4 wheelers and a tractor, all at the same time. |

| Proud Aunties Mary and Susan with nephew Isaac. |

Grandma and Isla. They adore each other. Mom can get Isla laughing just about as well as Sam can. |
 |
| So sweet. Grandma and Susan just enjoying each others company. |
 |
| Excited Sam! |

| Tanner-bear, just turn 15 years old at the end of May. So hard to believe he is going to be a Freshman! |
 |
Isla's first tractor ride and she loved it. She kept trying to take the wheel. I think she's a farm girl at heart. Move over Grandpa, I'm ready to drive!! |
 |
| Isaac rallied for a long time, but sleep finally won. He is just the mostly smiley baby. Always so happy. |

| We were at Grandma's Assisted Living, and Papa happened to see this on the fish tank. I had no idea that Quinn's mom had done this, neither had Quinn. . But it was such a pleasant unexpected surprise. Sam was mesmerized by the fish. Who would have guessed that years later, after Vera made this donation, that her Grandson would be gazing into it and honestly, banging on the glass. |

| Visiting grandma. We had to over flow into the front sitting room. A good problem to have. |

| Here is Sam and Grandpa again. Grandpa pulls out the big toys. Sam asked for a scraper, and Grandpa delivered. |
