Father's Day at Corpus Christi

Beach Boy!
For Fathers day, we spent a long weekend on the beach in Corpus Christi.  Sam was a big fan, taking off right out of the car!  We had a tiny little condo with the most fantastic beach access.  The water was just right below our balcony.  We had a great  view of the Lexington aircraft carrier, and easy access to the Texas State Aquarium and Fajitaville!

Our "salty dog" Odelia charged into the waves to join us on a swim.  The waves were twice her height, but she prevailed!  Once this swim was over, she decided to "provide support" from the shore.

Sam was hanging out with the locals at the Aquarium
When we were not at the beach, we were visiting the absolutely fantastic Texas State Aquarium, right down the block.  In addition to their menagerie of sea creatures, they had a wonderful water park for the kids.

Isla is checking to make sure she has enough sunscreen on.
Isla loved being in the water.   She splashed and wiggled and took it in stride when she was taken out by a wave.

Mommy and Isla are looking pretty in the waves.  Sam was too busy digging to pose for this picture.  That hole in the sand wasn't going to dig itself!
It was jellyfish season, and the water was just full of them.  90% of them lacked stingers, making them a perfect obsession for curious toddlers.  The other jellyfish tended to be rather painful, leaving many a welt on lots of happy beach goers (including Daddy)
Sam had to touch every beached jellyfish he could find.  This was a full-time job, as there were hundreds of them at any given time.  This drew many incredulous stares from other beach goers.
Of course Daddy couldn't just let Sam mess with the jellyfish all by himself!
As the day draws to a close, we get ready to head back to our room (in the background).  Fortunately there was a shower and a hose between the beach and the room.  The sand got EVERYWHERE!
Odelia, Isla, and Sam play in the sand while their father attempts to reduce the number of stinging jellyfish in the ocean.
Of course we had to go to Fajitaville!  It was the neighborhood tourist trap that had much cold beer, a cheesy band, and some awesome beef fajitas.
Staggering back to the condo after a fajita feast.
The USS Lexington was in the background of our adventure.  I am sure it will be on our "to do" list next visit.
Dad, Sam, and Odelia are looking for sea creatures
Manic Sam loved the huge sand castle we built.  Odelia decided to stick to the high ground, while Isla decided to sample the sandy "buffet".
Isla decided to try eating sand, with "mixed results".  It looks like it is about time to call it a day.
