Old Settlers Blue Grass Festival 2017

So slug-bug is one of the kids favorite games to play with Aunt Verna.
And this was the Mac-Daddy of them all with a matching little camper. And all in perfect condition!

We haven't been to the annual Old Settler's Blue Grass festival in the past 2 years and decided this year we needed to go! The last festival we went to, Isla was only 7 months old and just starting on solid foods. This year, Sam was 5 and Isla 3 years old and they had a super fun time. There are lots of kid friend activities and we took turns. Kid activity first, then Mom and Dad got to listen to a show...this worked out well, once we established the ground rules. We rented a friend RV, which is the easiest way to camp, especially with kids. So we were super spoiled to have running water and a toilet! Quinn took the RV out to the camp grounds a day early, but even then barely found a spot to park it, as some people set up camp 1-2 weeks in advance. The weather was lovely on Thursday and Friday and we were able to play and swim in the creek. But on Saturday a cold front came in and we had to bundle up in pants, jackets and blankets. So unusual for Texas Spring weather.

We didn't get to listen to as much music as we would have liked. Or roam the other camp sites after the shows to play music, as we had sleeping children and we were tired ourselves. But it was just so nice to be out there with all the other camping/music enjoying people. It is certainly a pocket of Keeping Austin Weird with lots of colorful people and good exposure for all.

The wonderful RV. It looks like Isla has fallen down, but she is just really rolling
on the ground and super excited to be setting up camp that she can't stand.

Morning board games and pick up sticks. It was a good time to get
away for the usual day to day and enjoy some simple fun.

Mom and Dad's turn to listen to some music. But first, ice cream cones!

Saturday morning and it's coooollld outside. Isla is all bundled up with Daddy reading at like 7:30 am.
One day they will sleep in...but not this day.

This is a hammock that Quinn hung next to the camper and the kids had a crazy amount
of fun twirling in it. Sam looks like a cat in a sack here.

Moving game explosion!

Fun stream they kids got to float down and play in. Quinn made a little damn with a small
opening that Sam could shoot through. He loved it. Isla, not so much.

Isla's turn in the hammock. So much fun!!

Our camping faces. Taking in some music.

Roaring for the camera. All cuddled up with Dad and eating Kettle Corn

Best seat in the house. She sat in this branch for a good 15 min. just listening to music.

Last show of the night. We were usually back at the camper by 8pm each night. But this last night we were out until 9:30pm, which is very unusual and super late for the kids. The kids passed out and we decided since they were already sleeping, we'd finish the show. Why not.

Sword fight! They lasted all of 10 min. and then popped. And then such saaaddddness.

Fun trees to climb behind the music stages. It was great, they could play and climb and
we could still hear the music and see the stage if you looked hard enough.

So Mama forgot to bring the graham crackers. So we had to improvise with left over
pancakes to make S'mores. They were actually pretty fantastic, and like little mini dessert tacos. After all,
we live in Texas and already turn everything else into tacos.
